Moments on the Mountain

If you want to read a good, challenging, thought provoking book, get hold of "Do You Want To Go To The Mountain" by Thomas Young.
Thomas writes the book as both an exegetical look at the Transfiguration and as a confessional devotion. It will rev your heart. The thought that Jesus displayed His power before thousands and then a week later took three disciples up to see Him in His glory will give you quite time fodder for a while. Thomas points out that many of us are satisfied with the big "wow" and we fail to spend time in His presence. Many are satisfied with His blessings; He wants us to be satisfied with Him.
A question? Would you rather see Jesus with the crowds, or go to the mountain with Him? Thousands saw the miraculous feeding, three went to the mountain and saw His glory.
There may be something here for leaders as well. While we are leading large groups or churches, we need to look around and find the few who will go a little further with God. Why dis God choose these three? I do not know. Maybe they were the best. Maybe they needed it more than any of the others. Maybe they were just willing. I believe it may be a combination of the latter.
I really do want to go to the mountain. I want you to go there too.
